Today was the day of surprise babies. This single doeling was born a few hours ago and we only found out because we saw a placenta laying in the shed. I would have missed her completely if I hadn’t seen
Yearling doe, WBF Tinsel, had a single black, blue-eyed buckling sired by Takuya. This doe is young but already shows great maternal instincts. She delivered out in the open unassisted. I found her buckling this morning already dry, fed, and walking
It appears this doeling has chosen her person. A lot of goats are frightened by exhuberant children whose erratic movements and bursts of energy confuse the goats. This doeling loves it! She’s one to jump at  scary objects and make loud noises
We’re wrapping up kidding season and I’m starting to evaluate babies. I track metrics around growth, temperament, conformation, and how well the dams are doing as mothers and as producers.  It’s still too early to tell which babies
Takuya just turned 2 years old. He did great for us this year. It was his first breeding season and he had a long list of does on his roster. Some of the does gave him a tough time because he was not their preferred buck but he still got the job done
