The Unexpected 100th Goat

We thought we finished kidding season with 99 goats. I was joking that I needed to make a parody version of the Jay-Z song “99 Problems.” It was going to go something like: “I got 99 problems and a sheep ain’t one!”

Then, on the hottest, most humid evening of this year, I stumbled upon a surprising discovery. Trixie, a yearling silver doe, was hanging out by our camping area by herself. “That’s odd,” I thought. As I walked over, I saw a black fuzzy shape tucked underneath a wooden pallet. “Who is that?” I wondered. I peeked underneath the pallet, reached, and pulled out an adorable black doeling with a big white star stamped on her forehead. A new baby and a total cutie!

Many kids have been born here but finding a new baby still feels like striking gold. Since she was born on a camground, we decided to name her Koa. This little doeling marks a special milestone as the 100th goat on our farm! Reaching this triple-digit herd size is a quiet achievement that we worked towards one goat at a time.

I guess I can’t make that “99 Problems” parody anymore now that I have 100 goats!
